Introduction.
5
Jul 1942, Berlin, according to
Allg.Heeresmitteilungen 581/42 all Schützen-Regimenter
in Panzer-Divisionen were renamed and reorganized Panzergrenadier-Regimenter
for boosting
morale and extending the tradition
of Prussian Army. The transformation was not title only, with the increased
providing of MTW into Schützen-Regiment after 1942 the weapons and
fighting technique of them also had been changed. However,
the production of MTW still could not catch up with the need so most of
Panzer-Divisions had only one battalion equipped with MTW, some of them
had only one company equipped with MTW and few of them even did not have
any MTW before the Operation of Blau in 1942. No matter they were equipped
with MTW or not, they were all named Panzergrenadier-Regiment.
