1 February 4AM 1945, Letschin, the 6th company of the 2nd battalion of Grenadier-Regiment (mot.) 119 advanced to Groß-Neuendorf after fire support from the 6th battery of Flak-Regiment 211. They drove the Russian back and stopped at the village cemetery under heavy enemy fire. Also on that day, the Panzer-Abteilung 5 with Panther G detrained in Werbig train station. That evening, the 1st (SPW) battalion of the Grenadier-Regiment 119 (mot.) also moved from Werbig to Ortwig along with part of Panzer-Abteilung 5 after they received fuel supply (1,2).

1/2 February night 1945, Ortiwg, the Russian launched a night attack but the German local Volksturm and RAD batterie 3/93 repelled the Russian. 2 February 7:30AM 1945, the Panthers from the Panzer-Abteilung 5, together with elements of the 1st (SPW) battalion of the Grenadier-Regiment (mot.) 119 and 8 Hetzers of an army anti-tank company attacked along the road from Ortwig and open field to Groß-Neuendorf with air support by Stukas. Although they encountered numerous anti-tank gun fire from scattered farm house on their way, they managed to beat off Russain 895th Rifle Regiment and broke into Groß-Neuendorf. The 2nd battalion of the Grenadier-Regiment (mot.) 119 also joined the attack from the southwest. They reached as far as the village church and turned into fierce house-to-house fighting with Russians. The Russians were forced back to outer edge of Groß-Neuendorf and the dike of Oder river but Germans still could not clear them out of the village (1,2).
