2 February 1945, Güstebiese (Gozdowice in Poland at present), the Russian crossed the Oder river and established another bridgehead on the west bank of the Oder river. This brigdehead posed a new potent threat to the northern flank of 25. Panzergrenadier-Division (1).
3 February morning 1945, Groß-Neuendorf, the Russian launched new attack to retake the village but the 1st (SPW) battalion of Grenadier-Regiment (mot.) 119 repelled several attacks. Then the 2nd battalion of Grenadier-Regiment (mot.) 119 hold the position and the 1st (SPW) battalion of Grenadier-Regiment (mot.) 119 withdrew to Ortwig to cover the new threat from Russian bridgehead on the west bank opposite to Güstebiese. Later the 2nd battalion of Grenadier-Regiment (mot.) 119 also withdrew to form a new defense line north of Letschin. The newly arrived third battalion of Grenadier-Regiment (mot.) 35 launched attack toward northward from Ortwig immediately (1,2). |

3 February night 1945, west bank of Oder river from Güstebiese to Kalenzig (Kaleńsko in Poland at present), the Russian brought forward the 301st Rifle Division to reinforce the position and form a continuous bridgehead including Groß-Neuendorf, Kienitz, and Genschmar when the 25. Panzergrenadier-Division redeployed their troops from Groß-Neuendorf to Ortwig and Letschin (1,2). |
